Disposable Vapes in Canada: The Complete Buyer's Guide

How disposable vapes work, how long they really last, what the 20mg/mL nicotine limit means, which low-nicotine and nicotine-free options exist, and how the rules differ by province.

What is a disposable vape?

A disposable vape is a sealed, all-in-one vaping device that arrives pre-filled with e-liquid and ready to use. There is no tank to fill, no coil to change and no settings to learn. You inhale, it activates, and when the e-liquid is gone you recycle the device and start a new one.

The category has changed a lot since the first 600-puff pens. Almost every disposable sold in Canada today is rechargeable over USB-C and carries between 17mL and 40mL of e-liquid, which is why ratings of 50,000, 80,000 and even 150,000 puffs are now normal. Many add a display, adjustable airflow, or a mode switch that changes how hard the coil works.

They are the most popular format at Vape Cloud by a wide margin. If you want to see which specific devices Canadians are buying, our ranked list of the best disposable vapes in Canada is updated from real sales data. This page is about how to understand the category before you pick one.

How a disposable vape works

Every disposable, regardless of brand, is built from the same six parts. Knowing them makes the spec sheets easy to read.

Cross-section of a rechargeable disposable vape: mouthpiece, airflow path, e-liquid reservoir, mesh coil, battery and USB-C port MouthpieceDraw-activated: inhaling turns the device on E-liquid reservoir17mL to 40mL of nicotine salt e-liquid (max 20mg/mL) Mesh coilHeats e-liquid into vapour; dual mesh = more flavour Battery650mAh to 1200mAh, recharged many times USB-C portRecharge until the e-liquid runs out Airflow pathAir enters at the base andpasses the coil to the mouthpiece Display / mode switchOn newer devices: battery, e-liquidlevel and power mode

The important numbers are e-liquid volume (how much is in the reservoir), battery capacity (how often you will charge), and coil type (single mesh is efficient, dual mesh is stronger). The puff rating is derived from those, not the other way round.

How long does a disposable vape last?

Puff ratings are measured in a lab with short, machine-timed draws on the lowest power setting. Real people take longer draws and often use Boost or Pulse modes, so expect fewer puffs than the box says. As a rule of thumb, take the rating and knock off a third.

Rated puffs Light use (150 puffs/day) Moderate use (300 puffs/day) Heavy use (500 puffs/day)
20,000 About 3 months About 6 weeks About 4 weeks
50,000 About 7 months About 4 months About 2 months
80,000 Around a year About 6 months About 3.5 months
120,000 Over a year About 9 months About 5 months

Estimates assume you get about two thirds of the rated count. Flavour usually fades before the largest devices run dry. Swipe sideways on mobile to see the full table.

Two other things shorten the life of a disposable: heat (leaving it in a hot car thins the e-liquid and can cause leaks) and time (flavour fades after a few months once the device is opened). If you vape lightly, a 20,000 to 50,000-puff device is usually a better buy than a 120K device you will not finish.

Nicotine strengths in Canada

Since July 2021, federal regulations cap vaping products at 20mg/mL of nicotine. That is why nearly every disposable on a Canadian shelf is labelled 20mg (sometimes written as 2%). Products advertised at 50mg or 5% are not legal for sale in Canada and are not what you get from a licensed retailer.

Disposables use nicotine salt e-liquid, which is smoother at a given strength than the freebase nicotine used in larger refillable tanks. For most adult smokers switching to vaping, 20mg salt in a low-power disposable feels comparable to a cigarette. If it feels too strong, or you want to step down, look for a device with a lower option.

20mg / 2%

Standard strength

The legal maximum and the default for almost every disposable. Best match for regular smokers and existing vapers.

10mg to 12mg

Reduced strength

Half the nicotine per puff. Suited to light smokers and anyone tapering down without changing devices.

0mg

Nicotine-free

All the flavour and ritual, no nicotine. Used by former smokers who have finished tapering, or for flavour only.

Low-nicotine and nicotine-free disposable vapes in Canada

Low-nicotine disposables are one of the most searched-for products in Canada and one of the hardest to find, because most manufacturers only produce 20mg. These are the options in stock at Vape Cloud at the time of writing:

Device Nicotine options Rated puffs Notes
GCore Prime 15000 0mg 15,000 Built as a nicotine-free device. Dual mesh coil, 12mL, USB-C.
Ripper SLEEK 0mg, 10mg, 20mg 20,000 The most flexible small disposable for stepping down.
Flavour Beast Alpha 80K 0mg, 10mg, 20mg 80,000 The only high-capacity disposable sold nicotine-free.
Orbito Lumo AI 120K 10mg, 20mg 120,000 Long-life device with a reduced-strength option.
STLTH 8K Pro 12mg, 20mg 8,000 Compact STLTH disposable with a 12mg option.

For the widest choice of lower strengths, a refillable pod system with 10mg or 0mg e-liquid gives you far more flavours and strengths (3mg, 6mg, 10mg, 12mg, 20mg) than any disposable. Browse the full nicotine-free collection.

Disposable vs pod system vs refillable kit

Disposables are the easiest option, not always the cheapest. Here is how the three formats compare for a typical daily vaper.

Disposable Prefilled pod system Refillable kit
Setup None. Open and inhale. Buy a device once, snap in pods. Fill tank, prime coil, set power.
Maintenance None. Swap pods when empty. Change coils every 1 to 3 weeks, refill daily.
Upfront cost Lowest per device. Device plus a pack of pods. Highest, then cheapest to run.
Running cost Highest for heavy use. Middle. Lowest.
Nicotine choice Mostly 20mg, some 0 to 12mg. 20mg and lower on many pods. Anything from 0mg to 20mg.
Flavour choice Fixed per device. Brand-limited. Hundreds of e-liquids.
Best for Beginners, travel, convenience. Daily vapers who want simplicity. Experienced vapers, budget-conscious heavy users.

Many Vape Cloud customers use two: a STLTH or Level X pod system at home and a disposable for travel. If you vape heavily every day, the maths usually favours a pod system within a couple of months.

Disposable vape rules across Canada

Minimum age

19 in most provinces and territories, 18 in Alberta and Quebec. Retailers must check ID, and deliveries require an adult signature.

Nicotine and packaging

Maximum 20mg/mL nicotine, child-resistant packaging, health warnings and a federal excise stamp. Ontario applies an additional provincial stamp, which is why Ontario listings are separate on vapecloud.ca.

Flavour restrictions

Some provinces and territories only allow tobacco or mint and menthol flavours. Our provincial pages list what we can ship: Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, NWT, Nunavut and Yukon.

Rules change. This summary reflects what Vape Cloud applies at checkout as of September 2026 and is not legal advice.

How to choose a disposable vape in five steps

Decide on nicotine strength first

20mg if you smoke or already vape 20mg. 10mg to 12mg if you are a light smoker or tapering. 0mg if you want flavour only. This narrows the list more than anything else.

Match capacity to how much you vape

Under 200 puffs a day: 8K to 20K devices. Around 300: 40K to 60K. All day, every day: 80K and up, and look for 30mL of e-liquid, not just the puff number.

Pick a flavour family you already like

Fruit ice, dessert, tobacco or mint. Brands have house styles: STLTH and Geek Bar lean crisp and icy, Flavour Beast bold and sweet, Elf Bar smooth and balanced.

Decide whether you want controls

Modes, adjustable airflow and screens add flexibility and cost. If you just want to inhale and go, a device without them is simpler and often lasts longer per mL.

Buy from a licensed retailer

Excise-stamped, 20mg-compliant products from an age-verified store. Vape Cloud ships across Canada and has 25 stores in Ontario if you would rather ask in person.

Frequently asked questions

What is the lowest nicotine disposable vape in Canada?

Zero. The GCore Prime 15000 and Ripper SLEEK Zero Nic are sold at 0mg, and the Flavour Beast Alpha 80K has a 0mg version. Below 20mg but above zero, the most common options are 10mg (Alpha 80K, Orbito Lumo AI 120K, Ripper SLEEK) and 12mg (STLTH 8K Pro).

Are there 3mg or 6mg disposable vapes?

Rarely. Disposables use nicotine salt, and manufacturers mostly produce 20mg with a few 10mg options. For 3mg or 6mg, use a refillable pod kit with freebase e-liquid, which is sold in 0mg, 3mg, 6mg and 12mg.

Is 20mg a lot of nicotine?

It is the legal maximum in Canada and the standard for disposables. Because it is nicotine salt delivered by a low-power device, most smokers find it comparable to a cigarette rather than harsh. If you are not a smoker, start lower or nicotine-free.

How do I know when a disposable vape is empty?

Flavour turns thin or burnt and vapour drops off. Devices with a display show the e-liquid level; on others, a blinking light usually means the battery, not the tank, needs attention. Recharge first; if it still tastes burnt, it is done.

Can I recharge a disposable vape?

Nearly every current model recharges over USB-C with any standard phone charger. You replace the device when the e-liquid runs out, not when the battery does.

Why does the same device have an Ontario and a Canada-wide listing?

Ontario applies its own excise stamp on top of the federal stamp. The Ontario listing is stamped for Ontario; the Canada-wide listing ships to the other provinces and territories. Choose the one for where you live.

How should I dispose of a used vape?

Never put it in household garbage or recycling, because it contains a lithium battery. Use your municipality's battery or e-waste drop-off. Many Ontario municipalities accept them at hazardous waste depots.

Are disposable vapes cheaper than pods?

For light use, yes. For a heavy daily vaper, a refillable pod system with bottled e-liquid costs less within a couple of months. The comparison table above breaks it down.
